Can farm cooperatives protect farmers from the supermarket wars?

Farmers are under increasing pressure to lower prices in the face of supermarket discount wars.

Farmers often receive indirect pressure from the retailers via the processors. So do growers who are in farmer owned cooperatives fare better?
Two successful farmer co-ops in Victoria and Western Australia think so and say this business model could secure Australia's agriculture.
